December Sessions PhotoSHOOT Guide

 

Thank you for signing up for a session! This page covers things you need to know before your shoot, including location details, safety notes, what to expect, and how to prepare. I want this to be an excellent experience for both you and your pup!

WHat to expect during your session

Every session is designed to help your dog settle into a new environment and show their personality.

Our general flow includes:

  1. Candids as your dog explores and warms up
  2. Action shots like running, playing, or interacting with you
  3. Posed portraits and any tricks or special shots

We move at your dog’s pace, include breaks as needed, and adjust based on comfort.


BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

  • Plan to arrive 5–10 minutes early so your dog can sniff around and settle, but be mindful if I'm still shooting another dog to not be a distraction.
  • Give your dog a quick brush if you want a more polished look.

what to bring

  • High-value treats
  • Toys, squeakers, or anything that gets your dog’s attention
  • Snow boots or warm layers for pups (Tibble Fork especially)
  • A towel or blanket for drying or warming
  • A brush for quick touch-ups
  • Any accessories you want included

Leashes are totally fine. I can edit them out later.

Having a good stay is helpful, but don't stress. I can always edit you out of images. Depending on your dog’s ability and comfort, we may capture:

  • Sitting portraits
  • Down positions
  • Standing shots
  • Over-the-shoulder looks
  • Paws-up poses
  • Chin or head-down shots
  • Tricks such as sit pretty, wave, or anything unique your dog loves to do

If you have something specific in mind, let me know. And always, feel free to send inspiration photos before your session.

Tips for humans


If you’ll be in the photos, a few small adjustments help everything look clean and polished:

  • Remove smartwatches or fitness bands
  • Avoid sunglasses on your head
  • Empty pockets (phones, keys, treats, poop bags hanging out)
  • Remove hair ties from wrists
  • Choose clothing that feels good and stays neat during movement

I can edit out small distractions, but being mindful ahead of time helps a lot and saves time during editing.

You’ll receive a text on the day of your session with the exact meeting location. I’ll be in a big white Sprinter van, so I’ll be easy to find.

TIBBLE FORK RESEVOIR

It's my understanding that there is NO CELL SERVICE up there. We will meet in the large parking lot. Please reach out to me if you are unsure of where you're going beforehand since I won't have cell service up there to respond to texts or DMs.

Road & Trail Conditions

  • The road to American Fork Canyon is usually well maintained and remains open year-round.
  • You can check UDOT for updated conditions before heading up.
  • Plowing ends at the large parking lot; trails are packed by foot traffic. You may consider wearing snow boots or hiking boots with good traction.

cold & winter safety for your pup

Tibble Fork is gorgeous in winter, but cold conditions can be intense. Keep your dog’s comfort in mind. Below are some things to consider:

  • Paw protection or booties help prevent snow from balling between toes.
  • Warm layers like sweaters or coats are great for pups prone to getting cold.
  • We’ll keep posed shots short to avoid long periods of stillness.
  • Bring a towel or blanket for quick warming or drying.
  • Bring a brush if you are wanting a more polished look.
  • Warm-up breaks in the car are totally fine if needed.

important ice safety

The reservoir does freeze over, but conditions can vary day to day. Please keep your dog off the ice, as cracks and thin spots have been reported.
